Subject: Bad Experience with Emirates Airlines during our Relocation from
Dubai to New York - 3 Passengers.

Dear Sir/ Madam,

Greetings to you. This letter is to bring to your kind attention our concern
on the poor service on emirates flight EK 201, DXB - JFK dated 14 Jan 2007.

Myself and my entire family have been frequent users of Emirates Airlines
for many years and we had a very bad experience during our recent flight to
JFK. I purchased my ticket from DNATA at a higher rate as it was stated as
"ECONOMY HIGHER CLASS". When we purchased the ticket we were told that we
would get preference in the economy class as we are paying AED 600 more than
the other ordinary economy class travellers per ticket. Also it was clearly
requested at the time of purchasing the ticket that I was travelling with my
wife who was 32 weeks pregnant then and my 2 year old son. And we were told
that there was no prior check-in especially for this flight. We had arrived
at the check-in counter @ 4.45 AM on 14 Jan 2007 so that we could get the
bulk head seat for my wife. We had 6.5 Kg excess total on all the 6 baggages
put together and the Emirates staff at the JFK ticket check-in counter was
acting too rudely and gave too much of a pain to me to off-load 1 Kg from
all the 6 baggages. She expected me to pay 25$ for each kilo and was not
happy at all when we decided to send those extra weight back home with my
father in law. She never had any manners to communicate the subject
properly, which was shown in the way she ignored us whenever we asked her

Atleast she should have shown some consideration towards my wife who was in
her last trimester of pregnancy. Also as soon as we requested for a priority
seat, she refused to give it at the first chance itself without even
checking in the system. After this instance, we were very clear that she
didnot want to treat us properly as this was confirmed as soon as we boarded
the flight and found that none of the exit seat passengers had any children
or were pregnant except one family with a single kid seated at the 15 C/D
seats.Atleast we were happy with one of the inflight steward who was kind
enough and tried his level best to get my wife a good seat in the front,
after seeing her condition, though the passengers refused.

We were totally unhappy with the long journey with such a prestigious
airline which resulted in my wife's extreme tiredness due to the crammed
seats that took days for her to recover from. We request your immediate
attention to enquire the same and give us a justification on the real
meaning of the "Higher Class in Economy" especially since we got a seat
towards the back of the flight inspite of an early check-in. Or is it just a
way to mislead the passengers and help the airlines make more money.

Thanking you,

Kind Regards,

Linu Kurian

Emirates Airlines
Customer services
United Kingdom

Dear Sir/Madam,

I travelled from London Heathrow (16/12/06) to Chennai, India
(10/1/2007) in your aircraft. The onward journey is ok, but my
returned journey was miserable, Because of poor service and un helping
tendency of the crew members. My son wanted to go to toilet for 45
mins, but she wouldn't allow him because the aircraft was not landing,
just waiting on Air to clear off the traffic. But they should have
told some alternate way instead of asking him to hold it for 45

I have 2 small kids; kid's food was not available. I
was asking for child seat belt and took ages to get it. There was no
politeness. Moreover my Aunty has back ache and the back seat
Passenger was not happy when she tried to use the recliner seat (back)
rest. I struggled to get a seat for her.

My Family usually travel on BA or Airlanka. This time I changed to get
a better airline, Obviousley I am disappointed. This is just to inform
you, so that this type of problem will not happen in future. Please
take care of the Family with the kids.

Thanking you,
Yours truly,
Mrs. Malar Vizhi Dharmalingam

Harassment and misbehaviour of Emirates Ground Staff

Subject: Harassment and misbehaviour of Emirates Ground Staff

My name is Latha Sunny and I am a resident of UAE for the last 22 years, during this period I have traveled Emirates Airlines on numerous occasions, but never experienced as written below:

On 10th January I was traveling from Cochin to Dubai – Flight no. EK 0531 which was scheduled to depart at 10.30 am but was delayed for 3 hours. Now the issue is something very strange and I have never experienced such bizarre and ruthless behaviour from any airline staff in my whole life.

As I was waiting in the queue to check in, I approached one of the Ground Staff of Emirates airlines whose name was XXX(name removed) and very honestly told him that I have some excess baggage and I have a friend who was in queue with me and was willing to take my baggage as he did not even have 15 kgs of luggage, he gave me a sarcastic look and said you get to the counter we will decide it there, but to my surprise when I approached the counter he had already informed the staff not to let me go without paying excess baggage and also should not allow my friend to carry my bag.

What surprised me the most is when I witnessed so many passengers getting thru with more than 40 kgs checked in baggage plus hand baggage, only I was imposed an excess baggage of 5 kgs when I had only 40.5 kgs and he wrote on my boarding pass NIL HBG.

Apart from paying the excess baggage, XXX was very rude and unprofessional in his approach to me and it was very embarrassing when he said "either you go back home or throw your stuff outside and come with the right weight", I was almost in tears as I felt very insulted in front of the other passengers, he almost threw my baggage from the weighing scale when my friend kept one of my bags to check in his name. He could have told me in a better way if this was not allowed.

All I need to say is Emirates Airlines being awarded the best airline of the year in the past should train their staff to be gentle and polite and should know to behave with women especially when they are traveling alone.

One rotten apple can spoil the whole basket.

However, this journey of mine will be a very memorable one as I am still not able to get over the insult and embarrassment I got from your staff.

This also leaves me thinking whether one should be really honest at all times?
